What will I need for this recipe?

Brussel Sprouts – There is a misconception about brussel sprouts because they can easily be overcooked and bland. They do have an earthy and bitter flavor that can be overpowering. However, when you cook them properly and pair them with a great sauce they are amazing!

Spices – To season the brussel sprouts this recipe utilizes garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. A very simple spice blend to cook them in.

Thick-Cut Bacon – Thick-cut bacon cooks much better than thin cuts and they will add much more flavor in your glaze. The bacon itself adds sweet, smoky, and salty flavors to the glaze.

Yellow Onion – Yellow onions tend to be sweeter and will caramelize much better than other types of onions. They also pair better with the bacon.

Balsamic Glaze – You can make your own balsamic glaze by heating balsamic vinegar in a small pot and letting it reduce into a glaze. However, I suggest using store-bought just for ease.

Avocado Oil – Avocado oil has a higher smoke point so it is easier to cook with. It also will not add flavor to the dish and compete with the flavors.

Lemon – The lemon juice is used to top the brussel sprouts when they come out of the oven to add a touch of freshness when they are served.

Parmesan and Goat Cheese – As a garnish I suggest using a cheese such as parmesan or goat cheese depending on your preference. Parmesan will give the dish a rich, nutty, sharp flavor. Goat cheese will give a nice tartness to the dish. It depends on your preference as to which garnish you prefer.

Tri-Color Sesame Seeds – This is the last garnish that I love to use. The sesame seeds will give a sweet, nutty flavor.

How to make Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Balsamic Glaze?

Prepare the Brussel Sprouts

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Trim off the edge of the stem of the Brussels and slice in half or in quarters by slicing each half in half. Rinse and strain them and place them in a large bowl. Add your garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and avocado to the bowl. Toss them and coat them well. Set aside.

Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet, add your chopped bacon and place over medium heat. Cook the bacon until browned and remove with a slotted spoon and set aside on a paper towel to drain.

In that same skillet add your Brussel sprouts and crank the heat up to medium-high heat. Cook the Brussels in the bacon fat and sear for 3-4 minutes or until a nice brown sear is present on one side. Add in your onions and continue to cook for 4-5 minutes until the onions get tender and slightly translucent. Add in a few tablespoons of your balsamic glaze and half your bacon. Toss well and place into a 450-degree oven for 10-12 minutes.

Bring it all together

Remove from oven and top with lemon juice, more balsamic glaze, and the remaining bacon. Garnish with fresh shredded parmesan cheese and try colored sesame seeds. SERVE and ENJOY!
